In October 2024, we added facility information to SBRICK. This information provides more detailed information about the history and charm of Sumoto, the town that surrounds SBRICK.
A hero has arrived in Sumoto!

We commissioned Design Hero Co., Ltd., a company based in Kobe City, to design this sign. Their work includes designing "A Guide to Disaster Prevention for Daily Life," a public relations material that conveys disaster prevention information to the citizens of Kobe, and involvement in creative education for children, among many other projects that are deeply rooted in the local community.
Furthermore, Design Hero has its office at the Design and Creative Center Kobe KIITO. Like SBRICK, KIITO is a renovated facility related to "thread."
Although we operate in different regions, we share many common goals with SBRICK, which is to create a "hub for interaction between islands and people." This led us to commission them to create the guide for us.
The materials they created included detailed guides to Craft Base and Kids Base, an introduction to the history of the town centered around SBRICK, introductions to the artists and shops that cooperated in the operation of the facilities and events, and even the overall design of the space. They created guides with a soft impression, making use of the original SBRICK theme colors of black and white.
A new symbol that reveals the city's history.

Immediately to the left upon entering SBRICK is a display showcasing the building's history. The SBRICK building was originally constructed in 1909 as a spinning mill. It has been in use for over 100 years, changing its role along with the changing times.
The history of SBRICK is, in a sense, the history of the town of Sumoto. We are showcasing what it looked like decades ago, a sight even locals may not have seen. A key point is that if you step back from the wall, it resembles the SBRICK logo! We would be delighted if visitors stop and take a look, even just a little, and become interested.
New connections spreading from SBRICK
SBRICK has been operating with the support of many people both on and off the island. Countless people have been involved, including the CRAFT ARTIS (craft artists) who rotate every three months, and everyone who cooperated with the Sumoto Festa.

We've also created a space to introduce everyone who has been involved with us so far. This includes an introduction to CRAFT ARTIS, and to the CRAFT MATEs who provided materials for CRAFT BASE. Those who have cooperated with our events are introduced as BRICK MATEs.

You might find some shops you already know among the exhibits. We also hope this will be a place where you can discover shops and artists you didn't know before.

Furthermore, the signs for PLAYFULL Lab. and KIDS BASE have also been updated. Concepts and other details that we haven't been able to fully explain before are now visually clearer.
Wada and Takizawa from Design Hero, who were in charge of production, said, "We designed it in consultation with everyone at SBRICK so that it would be easy to update even if the content of the guide changes." "We hope that it will be helpful in correctly conveying the concept and network as more people become involved with SBRICK in the future!"
I hope this board will continue to be useful to everyone as a "hub for exchange that connects islands and people, and people with each other."
